Not new just a re-intro

Been here a long time ago around K7 era just forgot my info...
My name is charlie and I mostly shoot weather and landscapes

I just had to come back and see if there is anything in the works for Pentax before I jump ship
it's been way to long and I feel they are losing their place in the market

Current Setups
k7, k5, k5IIs, k3IIs, 645D, MZS and many more film cameras
I had the K1 but hard times hit bad and it had to go

Welcome back... many here choose to run multiple systems, as you must do as you need, in order to get the job done.

Welcome back to the forums, Charlie

My, you have quite a setup! I'm a bit of a gear junkie myself (though in my case, a mix of older and newer gear, admittedly).

This is a well-worn subject, if you take a look through some of the threads over the last year or so...

May I ask, what is it that you're waiting for... what do you need or want that you don't currently have with your existing equipment? You seem to have every base covered in terms of formats (full frame digital aside, for the reason you mentioned), and I assume you have great glass to go with each format? Do you have a specialist application that your current gear doesn't adequately cover, and that you can't address through adaptation or acquisition of skills and techniques? Or are you just looking for new gear to mess around with (nothing wrong with that - I'm just trying to understand your needs ). Some folks would commit crimes for the range of gear you have at your disposal

That aside, there's no confirmed news regarding new Pentax camera models. We're all expecting a K-3II (so-called "APS-C flagship") replacement at some point, and it's reasonable to assume that the K-1II will be replaced in the not too distant future, but how long that will be, no-one yet knows. I'm sure you're aware of the challenging and contracting market for digital photography generally, and can see why the rate of new models will have to drop significantly for all manufacturers, but especially smaller, niche brands. Given that, I wouldn't expect to see a flurry of new camera or lens releases from Pentax in the near future.

Out of curiosity, what would you jump ship to if nothing is coming in the near future? Would you replace all formats? And why would you jump - specific performance or features, glass related to your use-cases, etc. ?

Indeed, welcome to Pentax Forums.

To follow Mike’s reply, we’re all fairly certain there’s something in the works for Pentax, but we disagree on what it might be, and there’s precious little hard information to go by. I did hear a rumour that Ricoh is interested in buying Greenland (makes sense in a lot of ways – dry air, educated but underemployed workforce, rare earths and isolated but close to a major market. Think about it...), but aside from that we simply live in hope that there’s going to be a surge in products (late) in Asahi Optical’s centenary year.

For my money, I’d say the two products to come soon are the K-3II replacement (as Mike suggests) and a 645Z replacement (or an iteration, at least, but a full-frame 645 could make a splash and return a tidy profit). I’ve no idea about lenses, although we’ve had a couple already this year and people keep asking about the mooted 70-200/4.

Maybe we should keep a banner on PF home page, saying “We Know Nothing!”

I wouldnt abandon my setup, rather I would just add another brand to the mix, but my trusty Pentax has never failed me so at this point i'm just considering the 645z and wait on the next model full frame
