No power when camera turned on

I am in South Carolina. I have a Pentax K-10. When I turn the camera on all I get is the flashing dead battery. I have removed and replaced the SD card, charged the battery, and replaced with a new battery. Is this repairable or do I need to purchase a new camera?

It may be a case of just battery failure. Otherwise, if the batteries seem to definitely have power, you might want to check the contacts on the batteries and in the camera battery compartment to make sure they do not have any unwanted material on them.

Please note also that sometimes batteries that are not actually Pentax brand do not hold charges as long as the actual Pentax brand. When DSLRs first were introduced, I bought several batteries that were not Pentax brand for backup, and they did not hold charges as they were supposed to do.

If you're still having the issue after inserting a brand new, OEM Pentax battery, then it's probably the camera. However, you could try cleaning the battery terminals on the camera to see if perhaps that's causing the issue.

K10D's can no longer be serviced at the official service center, and repairing one, if you can find a shop, would definitely cost you more than the sub-$100 cost of getting a replacement.

If you'd like to go ahead and upgrade the camera, the KP would be a great choice from among the current lineup.
