Intro post

Hi All,

I have lurked on this forum for about a year, and I have finally decided to say hello.

My first camera was a zenit about 35 years ago and it's one of my biggest regrets that my interest in photography lasted no longer than a year. Since my kids came along I have had a panasonic bridge and then mirrorless. I decided to switch to dslr about six years ago with a canon 100d. My son studying photography at A-level was the spur to switching to a Pentax K-1. I mostly enjoy shooting landscapes but I have struggled to find a decent wide angle lens that doesn't cost a fortune. Geography has not been kind to me either, living in Suffolk, UK. I have found myself concentrating more on macro lately, which is a good fit with a love of the outdoors and all things entomological.

I've mostly been using the forum to check out reviews of vintage lenses, which has proved to be quite an addiction. I'm hoping to be brave enough to post some photos at some point.

Welcome Chris.
Hope the years ahead will be just as informative and enjoyable as the first on this fine forum.

Welcome! Have no fear posting images - we're a pretty friendly bunch.

If you can specify what you consider to be not "costing a fortune", I'm sure there will plenty of advice offered about wide angle lenses!

check the reviews on the film era lenses

you may find that one of those might fit your need for wide angle at a " reasonable price "

Pentax [ full frame, focal length 15mm - 35mm ]

or third party

check the in depth reviews if there are any and the user reviews.

plenty of people here will give opinions if you ask about specific lenses or focal lengths

Thanks for the replies. I have tried an irix 15mm, after hearing good things about it, but was disappointed as I got a copy that would not focus to infinity. I have a samsung 20mm which is ok but nothing special. I have just had a look at the wideangle link to the forum; very interesting.

Welcome from NZ.

I quite like the vintage lenses too - some have pretty nice character. Although my new lens love affair is the 3 FA limiteds.
