Greetings from Scotland.

Hi folks. I'd like to introduce myself. I'm a retired teacher from Scotland who spends his time between our house in South Lanarkshire in the south of Scotland and our other home on the Isle of Skye in the North West. I've been into photography for more than fifty years now so you'd think I'd be good at it. However, although I know how to take a nice image I can't really say I know how to produce a work of art. Having said that, I enjoy photography as much now as I did fifty years ago; I've never lost my enthusiasm and I continue to get a great deal of enjoyment from going out with a camera and seeing what happens. I also love looking at the photographs produced by the many gifted people online.

I have a crazy collection of old film cameras which I've picked up over the years. However, they are not shelf queens; I actually continue to use them, although I no longer do any wet printing. One of my collection is my Pentax 645 11n which is a beautiful camera. I really should use it more than I do. The results are excellent. The only thing holding me back is the weight of the camera and lenses which I'm feeling more as I get older.

I had no intention of buying a Pentax digital camera. I have a Nikon D750 outfit which I love and which gives me great results. I also have a Samsung NX1 outfit which is worth more to me than I would get if I sold it, as Samsung pulled the plug on their photography division. It too produces excellent results. What happened was that I was browsing on Amazon UK when I discovered a Pentax K1 Mk 11 with the 50mm f1.4 FA* SDM AW Lens for £1749 new. I don't know if it was a mistake as the usual price was £2699. As a Scot I can't resist a bargain so I quickly bought it before they changed their mind. The price for the remaining outfit immediately went back up to £2699. My plan was to keep it for a wee while, play around with it then sell it. We all know what happens to the best laid plans of mice and men. The camera is a joy to use - the ergonomics are great and the raw files so flexible to work on. It's also possible to drastically crop and still get a quality result. So now in addition to my original purchase I also have the 100mm f2.8 macro, 15-30mm f2.8 and 28-105mm f3.5-5.6 D FA ED DC WR. Something tells me I'm not finished yet.
