Welcome to the forum.
The performance and IQ of the 28-105 really is very good. It vignettes a bit, and that is easily corrected to the point that I don't even notice it, I import with lens corrections on and it's gone. I think it a must have for general work, then you need an actual reason to take it off, i.e. wider faster etc.
Good luck with your choice.

I am looking at purchasing the K1. Is the kit lens 28-105 worth it or should what would be another good walk around lens?
I'm absolutely happy with this lens on my K1-II. It's sharp, it's weather sealed, it gives nice colours, it's not big or heavy. Great walk around lens.

When I got my K1 in May 2016 I got the 28-105 with it. It is much more than a "kit" lens.

Welcome!
I'm not sure on your experience , but as Adam says it does depends on what and where you shoot, however I have been pleasantly surprised with the DFA 28-105 on my K-1. For the money its got pretty good Image Quality, is relatively compact with has weather resistance. If you like to carry your gear around a lot its a very a useful lens.
However no lens can do everything (like macro, ultra wide lens, long telephoto, shallow depth photography etc) - welcome to the world of LBA (lens buying addiction)!

Welcome aboard!

I find the 28-105 to be an excellent walk-around lens (or in my case, travel lens). It has a very useful zoom range on the K-1 and very good image quality - and is compact for what it is. It is certainly a lot better than what you'd normally associate with the term "kit lens". If you want better you would have to go for the DFA24-70 (truly excellent, but big and expensive) or fixed focal length lenses.

I like my 28-105. It is working as a good walk around lens.

The focal length does leave a little to be desired and would like something a little wider for tight spaces. Overall I am more than happy with the lens.

I remember when 28mm was wide angle! . But personally I find that an ultra wide prime is better for the tight spaces, as you tend to get less distortion.
