Hello and thanks for this forum.

My mother had a K-1000, and it became my first camera. Shot with that until ~2007. Traded it for a Pentax ZX-5, but that has been sitting unused in my closet for years ever since basic digital cameras became commonplace, inexpensive and more convenient to me than processing/printing 35mm film. Funny to see that the K-1000 is worth more than the SX-5 in the used market. I feel nostalgic for the K-1000.

I used to shoot and edit motion picture film as member of the indi Seattle filmmaking community in the 90s - early 2000's. But I became busy building and remodeling houses and sort of drifted away from film and photography, apart from taking snapshots on my phone.

I am now looking to produce a video for for a community group I am part of and was offered a good deal on a used K-5. I got excited about the thought of being able to use my lenses again, and also to be able to make movies with this K-5 too. The K-5 is shipping in the mail as I write this. I have joined this forum after reading posts that helped me make my decision to buy the K-5. It was helpful. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum! The K-5 is still a more than serviceable camera these days and a fine choice. You'll be very happy with it!

Welcome Jesse.

The K-5 is great camera and I'm sure you will enjoy using those manual lenses on it too (as I enjoy using manual lenses on mine). Do post photos on the forums!

Pentax K-5 Review
Introduction
The PentaxForums.com staff is happy to be bringing out our first full-scale camera review! In this review, we'll cover just about all aspects of the new Pentax K-5 DSLR. Enjoy!

Pentax K-5 Review

On September 20th, Pentax officially announced the release of the K-5, confirming the many rumors claiming that it would feature a new 16.3 megapixel sensor, increased framerate, expanded ISO range (80-51200), and full-HD video recording capabilities. The camera started shipping in late October, and by the end of the month, we had acquired the body, as had dozens of our forum members. We quickly proceeded to evaluate it and conduct our tests, and to our great surprise and the surprise of many others, we found that the K-5 is much more than it seems on paper. The K-5 may well be the best DSLR that Pentax has delivered to date. Read on to find out why!
