Hello ... first post

Hi folks,

My name is Pierre. I joined this forum sometime ago, but have not even really lurked. Some years back I was also a member of some previous forum ... which I also ended up not visiting after a point. Not sure why ...

Current bodies in use are a K5 and a K10d. Previous to that there was an *ist DS and back in the film days a Program Plus and a K2.

Lenses ... er, several. Notable ones are the *300 and the *50-135, and a Tamron SP 70-210 from the Program Plus days.

Much of my shooting happens in the High Arctic.

Regards,
Pierre

Welcome to the forum form the Highlands of Scotland, perhaps your just not one to rush in...

I will admit to looking forward to seeing some "High Arctic" imagery from you, it's not something most of us get a chance at.

Hi Pierre, welcome to this forum. I think it’s worthwhile visiting on a regular basis. There is also a lot of information to be had.
But above all, show us your arctic photos, i might feel wam again over here seeing someplace where it is considerably colder.

Thanks for the welcome, folks. Is there a how-to or general guidance on posting pictures?
I didn't find anything after a quick look ...

There are a couple of subforums for posting photos.
You can join the weekly and or monthly challenges and there is a subforum for posting photos. More detailed info is in these subforums but it is really self explanatory. You can attach a photo in the message or create albums (on which I am not the expert as I do not use them)

Attachments and Images
How do I attach a file to a post?

To attach a file to your post, you need to be using the main 'New Post' or 'New Thread' page and not 'Quick Reply'. To use the main 'New Post' page, click the 'Post Reply' button in the relevant thread.

On this page, below the message box, you will find a button labelled 'Manage Attachments'. Clicking this button will open a new window for uploading attachments. You can upload an attachment either from your computer or from another URL by using the appropriate box on this page. Alternatively you can click the Attachment Icon to open this page.

To upload a file from your computer, click the 'Browse' button and locate the file. To upload a file from another URL, enter the full URL for the file in the second box on this page. Once you have completed one of the boxes, click 'Upload'.

Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window. You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.

What files types can I use? How large can attachments be?

In the attachment window you will find a list of the allowed file types and their maximum sizes. Files that are larger than these sizes will be rejected. There may also be an overall quota limit to the number of attachments you can post to the board.

How do I add an image to a post?

If you have uploaded an image as an attachment, you can click the arrow next to the 'Attachment Icon' and select it from the list. This will be inserted into your post and can be located where you want it displayed.

To include an image that is not uploaded as an attachment and is located on another website, you can do so by copying the full URL to the image, (not the page on which the image is located), and either pressing the 'Insert Image' icon or by typing after it, ensuring that you do not have any spaces before or after the URL of the image. You can insert pictures from your albums (?) in this way too.

Fox Prints

Let's try this out, then.

This was where an Arctic Fox would go to survey his domain. You can see the prints in the snow. Unfortunately, on this day he was elsewhere.

And ...

A fox, but not the fox from the above setting.

Great photos, especially the fox that looks like he just had something to eat.
We only have brown foxes and are not easy to photograph.
