Hello from upstate New York

For the past few years, I've been using Canon bridge camera while hiking & camping locally in the Adirondack Mts. Started with the SX40, SX50 and finally the SX60. These are awesome cameras for shooting scenery or wildlife. They're lightweight, focus is outstanding and with 65X optical zoom, no need to carry extra lenses.

While my best friend was being treated for cancer, he had me take possession of his Canon T6 and Nikon D3200 so I ended up experimenting with them a little. While he was in a nursing home for rehabilitation, I bought myself a white Pentax K-50 from Ebay with the 18-55mm WR kit lens so I'd have my own camera.

After following posts on this forum, I bought a Pentax DA 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 ED AL(IF) DC WR Telephoto Lens. It's an outstanding lens, very fast & quiet. I wanted something with a little more zoom so I just picked up a silver Pentax-FA 80-320mm F/4.5.-5.6 AF Lens. The one I received from Ebay was just like new, in the box with the original paperwork & instructions. Outstanding photos!

While following the Pentax Forums, I see that my K-50 may have problems with aperture lockup in the future. I'm already saving for another Pentax just in case and my budget says K-3.

My best friend and I were able to do a couple hammock camping trips in the Adirondacks this year before he was admitted to the hospital but only near my car. He passed away Oct 5th

Welcome aboard Mike, very sorry about your buddy. Your K-50 may or may not develop aperture block problems, but an upgrade won't hurt either. I'm not sure what used K-3s are going for, but there are some good current deals on KP and K-70. The K-50 is still a good camera so keep using it, even if you get a new one. Hope to see some photos soon.

Hello Mike,
Welcome to the forum. Very sorry to hear about your Friend...
I'm also a K-50 owner; so far mine copy is ok (4 years, almost 30 k on the shutter) so you never know - we both could be lucky enough to avoid the aperture control failure, but planning to upgrade is always a good option.
Greetings from Poland!

Welcome from another K-50 user. Sorry to hear about your friend.

I had a K-30 that the ABF got to it, I put an AA adapter with Eneloop batteries in it, gave it to my daughter three years ago and she is still using it, the camera has over 30,000 shutter count on it. So, if your K-50 goes out, try the AA adapter first. And you can still use older lenses without a problem, using the green button on your camera.
