I am dan very new to this whole dlsr world so any help would be great.

I currently have a huge problem though, I have a pentax ist dl2 and tried to do the firmware update last night and followed the read me to the letter and now my camera wont work at all, it turns on it displays the version number when you request it too but the lcd screen wont do anything and it wont shoot it shows up tv and the icons inside the view finder will change if you turn the dial but press the shoot button and it sounds like it tries to shoot but the lcd on the top gose blank.

Any help would be amazing as im now left without a camera thanks to the update and im lost as I couldn't have followed the instructions anymore to the letter so went from a working one to a none working all off the pentax website.

Firstly hello and welcome to the forums.

For your issue, I am no expert but I recommend formatting the SD card with your PC once again, re-downloading the firmware to you pc replacing the old one, extracting the file once more (again replacing the old extracted file) and then copy that .bin file onto your Sd card (Use another SD card if possible to eliminate that potential cause) and then try once more.

Remember - fresh batteries are a must.

Thank you for your warm welcomes.
Really hope so as it worked fine untill I did a firmwear update now its unoperable. Ruined after using a pentax firmwear update direct from their site

If you have another SD card that has been formatted in that camera, and proceed with the firmware update using the exact update procedure from the Pentax site, that may be your best approach.

The file that you download from the site (with bin extension on it) should be placed at the root of the SD card you are using for the update (the root meaning not in a folder on the card).

As I said, the important thing is that you follow the directions exactly from the Pentax/Ricoh web site.
