Videodata via K-5. Which lense?

Hello together,

my usual lense lacks some connection dots to the K-5,
so it might not focus while making videos.
As soon as the object moves, its out of focus.
(Maybe theres a simple endless focus-solution to this?)
As a musician, I need to be the object myself and to rely on the K-5 to do the rest.

(I guess, many of you want to tell me, K-5 is no video-gear. Thank you for not doing. I know.)

So i'm researching for a lense compatible to K-5 and
* focusing while videorecording.
* 300-500€
* second hand
* light-sensitive (for motives like night/concert/fireshow/stage)

I'd appreciate furthermore
* metallic K-Mount
* WR

I've printed the "Pentax K-5 Compatibility Summary" but cant find the link again.
So now i whonder, what all the letters in the lenses names mean. (D, L, F, DA, FA, ED, RE, *, J, etc etc etc)
...and if the answer to my video-focusing-problem may be found in this?
(if theres a summary of all the pentax-crypts, i'd be very pleased to read that!)

I really thank you a lot,
hopefully we'll meet on a videoplatform of my choice this summer!

Hello together, . . .
Welcome, you will find friendly members here as well as knowledge

I'll try to help on some of this [ I hope ]:

the OP asks:

perhaps you mean this ?

Pentax Lens Compatibility Chart

Pentax bayonet lenses labeled "SMC Pentax" are referred to as "K" lenses in the table below. Other Pentax bayonet lenses have the lens designation as a part of their name as in "SMC Pentax-FA".
Note that "star" lenses work like their "non-star" counterparts unless they are singled out in the table below. So for compatibility of a DA* lens, look under DA lenses, etc.
Exceptions:
FA and F "soft" lenses behave like M lenses in terms of metering.

In a nutshell

There are several series of Pentax K-mount lenses; the ones currently being produced include the DA (digital), DA L (cheap digital kit), D FA (full-frame, digital optimized), and FA (full-frame) series. While all Pentax K-mount lenses ever produced are compatible with all current Pentax DSLRs (in some cases with restrictions in that not all exposure modes of the camera are supported by old lenses), there are significant differences between each lens series and each has different features. Furthermore some of the newer lenses do not work with older cameras. We'll be exploring the differences between the various K-mount series lenses in this article. Read more about specific K-mount lens/camera compatibility here.

Welcome to Pentax Forums!

Sorry to say, but the K-5 won't continuously auto-focus (follow focus) when shooting video.

It will auto-focus during a video, if someone is holding the camera and presses the AF button.

Tested with an FA77mm and the DA 18-135mm in AF.S mode and C mode.

Not what you wanted to hear...

But if you do use this for video, get an external mic to plug into the camera for sound.

This reply helped me a lot!
I tried it again and found the distance needs to be enough/right.

So my result is this (and i hope theres coming up more, soon!)

[PENTAX K-5] [SMC PENTAX D-AL 18-55mm 3.5-5.6 AF AL]
[Rode NT-55] [Tascam US-2x2]
[Lenovo Ideapad] [Cubase 5] [Inkscape] [Blender]

Nice job! I looked up the gear you used, and may have to add one of those Tascam audio interface to my wishlist. That will give me a reason to head down to Sweetwater Sound and check out their new building (some day)
