Hi from Brisbane, Australia

Hi all,

I am not a Pentax or MF shooter, but I do shoot on the Nikon Z7 presently and particularly enjoy using the 19mm f/4 PC-E.

The reason I have joined the forum is that I have purchased a Pentax 55mm f/4 6x7 lens and also a Pentax 645 35mm f/3.5 lens.

On the way but not arrived yet are the Fotodiox tilt/shift adaptors for P645 to Z and also the P67 to Z.

Depending on the useful shift available in each case I expect to be able to make nice panoramas with a final FOV in the equivalent 35mm FF range 22mm to 30mm with these lenses and the adaptors (if I have got my numbers right!)

A bit late unfortunately, but I have now learned (from this forum) that the 67 55mm is a more recent and notably better version than the 6x7 55, so one of those is on the way from Japan.

Anyway I will start searching the forum to see if others are putting these lenses to the same use as I plan to do and get a feel for the results that they are achieving.

When I do start my own shooting I will post some results for those others that might be interested.

Steve.

G'day to BrisVegas, from the chill, still gloom of Alice.

THE SMC-Pentax 67 55mm f4 (designation of the latest lens, unchanged optically from the 6x7) is one of the sharpest tools in the box, even though most specimens of this lens suffer an irritating internal rattle. Nothing it can't make up for in striking image quality when refined technique is used for shooting.

Hi Paul,

Me too! I have received three lenses - the SMC Pentax-A 645 35mm f/3.5, the SMC Pentax-6X7 55mm f/4 and the SMC Pentax 67 55mm f/4, all via eBAY/Japan.. Still thinking of picking up a 45mm f/4, but will do some shooting first with what I have and take it from there.

The only things missing are the Fotodiox TLT ROKR tilt/shift adapters! The 645 adapter should arrive today or tomorrow. The 6X7 adapter arrived a few days ago - except I was sent the Hasselblad to Nikon Z version in errior, which I now have to return and then get the 6X7 to Z version - the one I ordered in the first place. Frustrating because it took over a month to get here from the states.

I can't wait to see the results with the 35 and 55 lenses, comparing the overall image quality and edge (of the image circle) sharpness, which is what I particularly care about in my stitched panos. I will be interested to see how they compare against some of the better Z glass. Despite their age I am hoping they will hold up very well.

Cheers,
Steve.

Hi Steve, I saw your review of the Tilt/Shift Z7 adaptor on the Fotodiox site and found you here on the Pentax forum...

I am also interested in using Pentax 645 lenses with the Fotodiox adaptor and wanted to get your overall opinion on it now that you have had it for a while please?

Thanks, Don

Pentax lenses

Hi Don,

I found it a little difficult to set tilt accurately with the TLT ROKR as there is no geared adjusting knob. The best lens was the late model 55, but it is heavy and places some strain on the adapter and, in turn, the tripod mounting plate under the camera. I also wanted more shift than the Fotodiox units offer, and at the same time, the image circle of the 67 lenses did not offer much more room to move.

I sold all four of the Pentax lenses and bought a Cambo Actus G with a set of four Mamiya RZ67 lenses. They have a largish 95mm image circle and the Cambo lets me shift 20mm left and right within that IC. And it has a geared knob for accurate tilt adjustment. Not an insignificant outlay, but I finally have a setup that ticks all my boxes. It is now a pleasure to shoot with these MF lenses using various movements.

Only the late model 55mm 67 lens approaches the RZ lenses, but I think they are all on another level, even compared to that.

I still have the 67 and 645 adapters. They are a little hard to sell.

Rob de Loe on Getdpi.com and dpreview (MF forum) is a great source on Pentax 645 lenses and tilt/shift mounting options.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,
Steve.
