Hello from a recently returning to Pentax user.

Hello. My Name is Chris Wright. I live in New Hampshire, USA. I have been a life-long Pentax user up until the digital camera revolution. At that time I just couldn't justify the price for a Digital SLR, so pretty much had point and shoot cameras for a while and then more recently a Panasonic Lumix FZ300 SLR-like super zoom. I still have my most recent Pentax film SLR equipment, which I may now be selling.

Like many I started with the Pentax K1000 and the 50mm kit lens in high school and participated in my high schools camera club, learning black and white developing and printing, Over the years I moved up to the Pentax P3 and finally the Pentax ZX-50 with the venerable Sigma 28-105mm F2.8 zoom.

After about a 15 year hiatus, I have just returned to Pentax by purchasing a K-70 with Pentax DA 18-135mm and 55-300mm lenses along with the GPS unit. I chose Pentax once again for the the price/feature advantage that Pentax has over the competition and especially for the Astrotracer capability as I want to get into some astrophotography (I blame Comet Neowise for that). I picked the K-70 for the newer 24 megapixel sensor, and preferred some of its features over the more expensive KP. I've had the camera for only about 2 weeks so far, and love it. I just have to get used to manual zoom again:-)

When doing research to get myself back up to speed on current Pentax products, I ran across this excellent Pentax Forum. I imagine I will be at least lurking on here a lot.

I've attached a star photo I took from my backyard last week to test the Astrotracer (and my ability to get the stars in focus).

That's my story in a nut shell,
Chris

Welcome! Just in case you were not aware but all of your older Pentax lenses will work on your K-70. Many of us even use the even older Takumar M42 screwmount lenses on our modern DSLRs.

Welcome to the Forums from Australia. I still use a little Panasonic as my carry around camera when I am out working. They certainly have their place in the overall scheme of things.

Yeah, I have not decided to get rid of the FZ300 just yet. It takes pretty good video, which I know is still a weakness with the Pentax SLRs.

Don't be too quick to sell your film stuff. If you get a sudden urge to try film again, you will regret selling it.

Welcome to the forum! Like jatrax said, your old Pentax lenses work fine on modern DSLR's. If you have an A lens or an F/FA lens, you just set the aperture ring to 'A', and you adjust the aperture like on any DA or D-FA lens.

If you have an M or K lens, you won't be able to adjust aperture via the e-dials, and the camera won't read the aperture from the lens, so you'll have to do it all manually. But hey! I can do it, so anybody can!
