Lens performance on the cheap

I'll be trying to appeal to those photographers who want high performance without breaking the piggy bank.

welcome to the forums

you will find friendly members and a lot of knowledge here

if you are willing to accept " experienced " equipment check out the forums' marketplace

it can be sorted by country

The Pentax Marketplace | Buy & Sell Pentax Cameras and Lenses (United States) - PentaxForums.com

be sure to check out the owners' reviews and in depth reviews of equipment you can find under " cameras " and " lenses " to help make an informed decision

I'm not sure to whom you are trying to appeal?

Are you wanting to buy lenses for yourself? What camera do you own?

Welcome to the Pentax Forums!

Will there be follow-up bread crumbs?

OTOH, if you are hoping to find advice on how to get the best photos possible with spending a lot of money, many members here are experts and are share advice freely. Many more are somewhat less successful, but that is part of the fun.

One example - a recent purchase of a Pentax 300mm A* for just shy of $300 including shipping and (ugh) taxes.
This is a well used lens but everything mechanical works very smoothly and the glass is absolutely pristine. The optical formula

includes 3 big convex ED elements up front and 3 concave high refraction elements along with two standard optical glass
elements including the rear most.
This lens is on a par with my Canon fd 300mm f4 L; the performance difference being the Pentax is slightly warmer.

Thanks for the welcoming.
Here's some info that might be useful and perhaps worth repeating again later. There seems to be some confusion about ED glass in these two lenses.
Both the M* and A* versions of the Pentax 300mm F4 lenses utilize ED glass.
The first second and fourth elements are all large convex pieces of ED glass while the third fifth and seventh are concave high refractive glass. The sixth and eighth elements are standard optical glass.
