This was a major concern obviously, but the seller I bought it from is a retired engineer who claims to have developed his own proprietary fix, claims he's fixed over 50 K-30s and K-50s without issue, and he offers a lifetime warranty on the repair (minus shipping) in the event it fails.

And to be honest it was so cheap that if it dies I'll be happy to have an excuse to buy a K-70 or K-3, and the K-50 will still work just fine with old manual lenses (which will probably end up being 80% of my collection).
You might want to look into the Pentax O-ME53 magnifier eyecup. I've been using them for years and find it improves my manual-focusing ability.

Wow, you read my mind. I figured something like this existed but didn't know what to look for.

Hi Jimmy, welcome to the forum. My first Pentax was a Red K50.
Great camera with a really nice 16mp sensor.
Mine is now a backup and is still working fine.
I do however have a white solenoid In case
it needs it.

Long live your obsession with Pentax. I started with the K1000 film back around 1976. One of the original ones which I still use as of lately. Got some auto - manual lenses to use with K1000 and then also on is DS, Kx and K5. Hope you keep having a great time of it. Cheers.

Prescient comment. Since starting this thread I've acquired 3 Spotmatics, a Super Program, a K-3ii and a PC35AF. Am mostly shooting the Super Program right now.

Welcome from Kelowna, BC. I think you will be happy with the K-50. I bought a black K-50 kit with both lenses used in late March. It had under 1,000 actuations, and is in like new shape. I am quite impressed with it so far; it is essentially as good as a Nikon D7100. I haven't taken many pictures with it yet, but I expect to get out and take some photographs over the next 4 - 5 days.

Welcome!

A “Super Program” was my workhorse 1983-95, when I switched to Canon because I came to love their EF/usm lenses.
In 2015 I came back to Pentax - because my Canon Rebel bodies had problems - with a K-30, the predecessor of the K-50.
I did experience “Dark Image Syndrome”, but I bought a FA 28-105 lens, so I could control aperture at the lens since body control no longer worked.
That lasted a few months, but then I bought a KP, which is now my primary camera.

Welcome to the forum. My journey with Pentax DSLR's started with another low shutter count K-50. It is a great little camera, and I am sure you will enjoy it. Be forewarned about those old MF lenses: one is never enough. I have been fortunate to find good used Pentax-M and Takumar M42 lenses at generally reasonable prices.
