RobSpain - When it reached approx 630 shots - it was intermittent at first I thought I had done something wrong..but after another episode they all came out dark which is when I started the google search! Glad I landed here.
Solenoid should come in soon, will have to start clearing and cleaning some workspace.

Good luck with the repair, I hope it goes well for you.
Photos-by-Chas - I am not 100% confident that I will be able to repair it but fortunately I have spent most of my life learning about things by taking them apart - usually when they reach their end of life or I am trying to revive them! As far as this K70 goes I felt it's in too good a state to sell for parts only or to get rid of it. Besides which it was a $1000 Canadian gift from my son! The trick I use when repairing things eg smartphones etc is to put the screws and bits in sequence into an ice tray or similar compartmented container and reverse direction when putting it back together. Worst thing I did was my son's Iphone - just to change the microphone you had to take practically everything else out. Poor design for repair. I am hoping to set up a big screen infront with photogem's detailed instructions and see where I end up.
