6mp / K100D new to dslr

Hi all,
Am new to the site and starting out my dslr at the retro 6mp end of the spectrum.

I've never used an slr so will be working my way up.

I do love taking pictures. Particularly plants and sea / landscapes.

Look forward to finding out more and the site along the way.

Thank you. I have everything to learn and the small budget takes the pressure off.

Welcome!
My 6MP body (K100D Super) is still my most widely used camera by a long margin over all others.

Thanks,

The K100D super was my return to SLR style cameras. The k100D is virtually the same camera.

I used mine with an 18-55 and a 50-200 for several years. The biggest issue is the lack of performance at higher iso ranges. My recollection is that around 400 was about as high as I wanted to go to - maybe 800? The images at minimum iso are richly colored.

Also, since the k100D can be used for sdm lens conversions try to keep it even if you upgrade.

The K100D was my first real camera. Hope you enjoy yours; this forum is a great resource in learning all things Pentax.

Agreed with UncleVanya on the ISO limitations of that body. A basic tripod to allow for long exposures might be useful depending on what and how you shoot.

Welcome! Low budget shouldn’t be a limitation. Read, watch videos, get knowledge and inspiration. I used to work in the <10mp range and I had no issues, BUT noise. A sturdy tripod is indeed the best way to get usable images in many situations. You can get one for less $ than you think. Hope you have a great time with your dslr.

Hi thanks for the welcome and insight all.

I'll be sure to remember to work in lower iso range. I've yet to start manually adjusting ranges. Though have started to understand aperture.

I'm trying to pick up a few k mount lenses.
Have bought a Pentax-A Zoom 28-80mm Lens 1:3.5-4.5 K and a
Tokina SD 0-210mm Telescopic which was dirt cheap so took a gamble on a non pentax lens.

The camera comes with a smc PENTAX-DA 18-55mm F3.5-5.6

Have been pondering a 'nifty 50' I've seen mentioned on you tube. canon ef 50mm f/1.8 stm lens

Also picked up a second hand lowepro rucksack for our walks.

Will have a look at recommended tripods. Really appreciate the tips.

Camera should arrive today, its an online oxfam purchase.
I'll be having a play and have a good read around the forum and you tube.

Welcome, while megapixels are important, learning to frame and manage the light are better skills.

You can use the lens review section and find those lenses and see some sample shots other people have taken with them to get some inspiration, and you can read reviews for anything you should be aware of.
