A story that I thought someone would like. I attended Wigan art and design college 1975-77 and because I only had a canonet they loaned me a pentax S1a that I kept for the duration. I took about 2 thousand images over 2 years with it. I had completely forgot what this camera was until unearthing all my negatives amongst my dad's belongings in 2017. I decided to scan them and for the next 2 years I did just that. One strip of negatives was obviously not mine as it was on agfa film ( I only used Ilford and tri x). On printing one of the negs I found it was a picture of myself holding an slr in 1977. It was a S1a.
I remembered on giving it back, I inscribed my initial behind the back door and dated it too. ( I had forgotten I had done this by 2017). I wondered if the camera still existed?. The college closed down shortly after I left, I visited what is now Wigan Town Hall!. I told my story to a sympathetic official who took me to the top floor of the victorian building, unlocked the door to an attic room, and there in front of me was all the art school stuff stored when it closed in 1980!
. In a cupboard was all the darkroom stuff, and behind that all lined up were the cameras we all used back then. 6x s1a's and verious zenits. I opened all the backs and the very last one was mine!!. The lady said 'put it in your bag I'll say nothing!'. I now sits in my glass cabinet, and yes it still works perfectly.
Great story ! My first good camera was a Pentax S1a, that I bought new in 1968. My job required me to take photos and I had to get a 35mm SLR. I did and that was my Pentax S1a. I still have it, it still works and I also still have my hand held Sekonic light meter, that I bought at the same time and it still works.

Oh, in that case, nicking cameras is completely out of character my dads family is Bolton/Rochdale the E1 is a genuine classic. Any particular reason for preferring it? Or is it just the character of the camera?

What am awesome story! I love when photography stretches across decades to connect time with more than just a photograph.
