G'Day from Melbourne

Hi All,

Have been lurking around here for a few weeks now, soaking up as much of the great advice listed on these pages as I could.

I recently purchased the K200D with DA 18-55mm and have been really happy with it so far (actually surprised myself with just how good my first few test shots were).

Have graduated to the DSLR from Lumix FZ20 and the Fuji S6500FD and am slowly coming to grips with all the additional control/features that the K200D offers.

I am now thinking that a Photography short course might be a good way to get my feet wet (so to speak), but that is a discussion for another thread.

Anyway, I'm really grateful that a resource such as this exists, and a big thanks to you all for helping persuade me to the world of Pentax.

Cheers,
B.H.

Welcome to the Forums B.H.

A nice little upgrade from the Panasonic and Fuji (I was actually impressed with a mates S6500 actually). There's quite a number of Mebournians on this forum ... and there have been meets as well.

May i suggest having a read through some good books ... and also playing with your camera first before deciding on going on a course. I was thinking about doing a course a little while back to understand thing a bit better. But over time i found reading books .. reading these forums ... and just getting out and shooting was more beneficial to me when it comes to learning photography.

There's many excellent forum members on here that are willing to help in everyway.

Enjoy your stay.

Cheers
Simon

Welcome to the forums mate.

I had thought about getting one of those Fuji SLR-like bridge cameras but took the plunge with a K10D instead.

Welcome B.H. www.photonhead.com, particularly the SimCam, is a good site for learning the basics of exposure.

Welcome to the club!

As you've already found, this is a pretty friendly place, with a wealth of experience.

I looked at the Megazooms like you had at one stage, but felt that the bang for buck and greater flexibility of a dSLR was the way to go. Like you I'm new to Pentax, but have found the K200D to be a great camera.

Enjoy your new toy - look forward to some images in the gallery!

Cheers

Hello BH, are you on Flickr?
We have monthly Melb group meetings and quite a few of us are Pentax users.
I'm from Geelong but work in Melb.
Let me know if you want more info about the meets, etc.

Welcome to the forum, I think you Aussie lads are starting to organise a big beach party here, with the number of Aussie members in this forum.

Now thats an idea! I'll bring the beer (Coopers of course ) if someone can organise wine, someone else provides a barbie and we find a good butcher to take care of the snags and chops! Who's good with salad?

Oh yeah, any good photographers around to record the event?

Which beach should we go to? Theres no shortage of great sandy beaches around the country.....

Love Melbourne, would kill to go back to Vlado's where, for appetizers, they serve you grilled sausages (to die for) as if their hefty steaks weren't enough!

When you go, it's not a question of IF you eat meat but rather HOW MUCH you can eat...
