I'm glad that I made the right call on the K10D then; from the reviews it sounded s solid purchase
That is my assessment was well - the K10D is on my list of things to try. Fortunately, it sold quite well, so there should be plenty to go around. Welcome to the forum!

I've had both, and the claims that I'd read that there were vast external differences, and the third party one would not allow infinity focus seemed unfounded. The only genuine Pentax ones I could find at that timecost an extraordinary amount of money - about four times what the generic ones were.
When I had both in hand and compared them, I could see no differences at all. And, true enough, both adapters fitted snugly with the body. The lens I needed the adapter for could not achieve infinity focus on either variant - Pentax genuine or generic, and the amount it was off by was the same on both.
I'm generally happy to give a little bit extra for a genuine OEM version of something, but given the price differential, it seems well worth trying to find a third party one and checking for how it fits on the body. You'll only have a problem if it sticks out a little too far as older lenses usually are capable of focusing beyond infinity to compensate for slight manufacturing variation. My case was an apparently rare exception to that rule.
