It's been a few years.....I'm back!

Hey guys! Recently been getting the GAS itch and I've been craving a Pentax body.

Been shooting professionally with Sony and Canon the last few years, currently dialing back on the photography aspect of my career and thinking of picking up Pentax again as I move towards taking photos for fun again.

Any recommendations or suggestions on what bodies are the new hotness around these parts? I haven't been keeping up with y'all since my K-5 days.

Hey..... Look at the KP, it’s a nice shooter , moderate price , not a full frame body though.

Hang up and DRIVE!

Thanks for the suggestions! Let me make it clear what my priorities are: I do not care for image quality, performance, full-frame, etc. as I get plenty of that from my 'work' cameras -- my number 1 goal is a camera that brings me joy to use. I loved the k-5 back when I had it so that's my sort of baseline for where to set expectations. I loved the way it fit in my hand, I enjoyed its overall responsiveness and I absolutely abused it's go-anywhere build.

Many new and outstanding Pentax cameras have been released since your K-5 days. However, the K5iis is still the highest rated DSLR Pentax camera of all time on this forum.

It's better than the K5 because of no AA fitler, and a few other features. Might want to put that one on your short list of bodies to consider.

By all accounts the new APS-C K-3iii is going to be a joy to use, but of course none of us (well, nearly none of us) has actually tried one - I'd definitely be hanging out to feel one in my hands before making a choice

Sounds like the K3iii was being designed with you in mind.

I'd certainly show a tiny amount of patience and wait a few weeks for the K3III to go official. It does sound like a shooters' camera, with serious consideration given to the ergonomics.

The K3iii definitely sounds like it has a ton of promise, I'll definitely have to give one a try when it finally comes out.

In the meantime, I'll try to hunt down a K-5 to fill my craving, haha. Thanks everyone!

FWIW the most "fun" camera I have had in the past 6 years is the K1. I've owned a K5, and K50, several KS2's, a KP, a couple of K70's...
None are as enjoyable as my K1.

"I do not care for image quality" Sorry, if you are buying a Pentax you are going to get image quality. I have a KP and would highly recommend it. And the coming K-3III is supposed to be all about the joy of taking pictures, the ink is some of the hype about it.

Welcome to Pentax Forums.

I would also suggest the Pentax K-3 III, which is soon supposedly to be available.
