Welcome!

Should note CRK won't honour any warranty for imported products so you will have to send back to the states if anything were to go wrong which defeats the point IMO. Unfortunately CRK probably won't be getting anymore KPs in and they just got rid of their old stock - the only local stock options now would be Digidirect. There was no real discontinuation announcement so price has remained relatively unchanged although DD dropped their (inflated) 1599 to 1299 (normal price) at the start of the year. You could wait for them to have another sale but god knows when that will be.

Good luck - its a great little camera!
My preference is to buy local but there is not many options. Nobody has stock or like you said the price is high.

Aussie member @des has a new k3II for sale in the marketplace for under AUD700.

The kp has the tilt screen which is most useful for astro, in landscape orientation anyway.

Thanks
Already contacted him but someone else has first dibs and he won't have it for a month.
I would be happy with either if I can get a good deal local.

Since you have a KP if you could choose either which would you choose?
Looking at the specs they are pretty close.
Would one be better for Astrophotography?
The KP's files are much cleaner at high ISO. Astrophotography isn't really my thing, but I reckon that might make a big difference to you.

I moved my K-3 on to my brother after I got the KP. It's still an excellent DSLR though.

Thanks for all the help everyone.
After too much time spent looking I finally ordered a KP.
Reality is if I wanted new it was my only option.
Digidirect on Ebay had 20% off so I got the KP for $1039.
Cost a bit more than the one from Amazon but it has Australian warranty.
Just need to order the O-gps1 for it but I will wait just incase they can't supply it.
Thinking about getting the battery grip or just get extra batteries as I read the battery life on the KP is not great.
Can't wait to play with the Astrotracer. Been wanting the upgrade for years.

It's fun though. Kp is a great camera IMO. Yes, get an extra battery, or maybe 2 as the night work does suck through power with screen use for focus and checking composition. One of the great features for night work is the 5 user modes - set a few up can save a lot of pushing buttons in the dark. Good luck and clear skies!

New camera arrived today. Quick delivery from Digidirect.
I don't like the small grip on the KP and will have to get a large grip as I have big hands.
Think I might get the battery grip as it comes with the large grip. It will be good because I can use AA batteries in it. I already have a lot of AA batteries already from the K200d and the Xbox controllers.
Got the O-gps1 on order but won't arrive for a few weeks.
Looking forward to testing it out on the weekend.

Pentax does not supply the second tray ( for AA's ) with battery grips any more.
But KP grip tray will also accept bigger ( higher capacity ) battery from K-5/3/1 series cameras.

That's a shame. Makes it more expensive for the grip and the extra battery.

Buying local is always the best.

Welcome to the forums, and I hope that you enjoy working with your new KP!

Welcome to the forums. If I could only justify buying KP.
