Not your typical Pentax user

I’m very pleased to have found this forum, find the content useful and look forward to engaging here!

I’m retired and shot film from when I was a kid until I went all digital about 29 years ago. Early last year I decided to start shooting film again for fun. I’ve never really been a Pentax user before, with the sole exception of an Auto 110 I bought with an ex-girlfriend (who kept it). But I found myself locked down in a different city to my extensive film camera collection and missed having an SLR. Then I happened to see the movie We’ll Take Manhattan where David Bailey used an S3 and thought it looked cool, classic and retro. A bit of research, and the fact that I’ve been using only manual 120 and Rangefinder cameras during lockdown, sold me on getting it, but I didn’t find an S3 on eBay that seemed to fit what I wanted. Then I came across an S2 that looked perfect (with a 50mm F2.2 Super-Tak). I discovered when I got it that it I had struck lucky and it is a Super S2 with 1/1000 sec and coupling for the meter (though I am happy to stick with my Weston and an iPhone App) - so pretty much an S3 really.

So far, I’ve really enjoyed using it (though I haven’t processed the first roll yet). I happened to come across a set of extension tubes for the S2 at a decent price online, so they are on the way to give me a Macro capability, and if I like the results I am thinking about getting a 24mm.

Welcome! And by the way, I don't think there is such a thing as a typical Pentax user, LOL, really!

And a welcome from Norway

It might be easier to find a 28mm Super-Tak than a 24mm, but I believe both of them are good.

I’ve noticed that... however I saw a good price for an ENNA Revuenon 24mm and decided to take a punt on it. It has the added benefit of being made here in Munich! It arrives at the weekend so I’ll see how it goes - I didn’t find a review but other Revuenon’s are well respected. And I still have the option of getting the 28mm (or 35mm) Tak later.

Seems to be a decent lens, and with a short minimum forcusing distance. I believe the Auto-Revuenon is identical to the Macro-Revuenon, just different markings.

There are a few threads about it on MFLenses, like this old one:

Welcome from Denver..Been using Pentax film cameras for 40 years, and digital also. Sad about the Auto 110 I have them and still enjoy the fun of using such a small camera that takes great pics.

Welcome to the forum.

As mentioned above I think many or most Pentax users are a bit "touched by inspiration", sounds like you'll fit right in!
