Hey there folks. New forum member here.
I am based in the United States and have recently returned to the Pentax brand.
My camera history:
- When I was a kid / teen, I shot with disposable film cameras, then eventually a film SLR, an old Canon AL-1 my father had moved on from and gifted to me. I have some good memories with that thing.
- When digital cameras came out, my family purchased a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-F717 and that became my go-to for a period of time. My father let me use it frequently. It was a big deal at the time, as I remember. During this period of time, I also had a couple cheap digital point-and-shoots of my own.
- Eventually, I got a grown-up job and purchased my first DSLR - a Pentax K-x in the year 2010. I used this camera for many years, using a few different lenses. I loved the fact that I could pick up old Pentax lenses on eBay and they would work with the DSLR, something that Canon or Nikon would not let me do! I used this family to take family photos, of my kids, everything.
- Fast forward to 2017-2020. At some point during this period of time, cell phone photography improved to such a degree that it became my go-to. I sold my K-x in 2018-2019 to make some other purchase, as I was using it less often. I began using my cell phone to shoot RAW and edit using RawTherapee, getting some stunning shots (photography as an interested never faded).
- Now the year is 2021. I began to want the versatility of the interchangeable lenses again, and became interested in how far the Pentax tech has progressed since my K-x. After quite a period of deliberation, I recently purchased a Pentax KP and am loving it. I will still use my iPhone - since it's always on me and suits some situations better - but the DSLR brings back so many memories and can create better photos when I take my time.
That's where I am now! Looking forward to discussing all things Pentax with you folks!
