G'day from Robina, Gold Coast, Australia

Just bought my first digital (Pentax ist DS) after using an Olympus OM2n and various lenses. Seems like a nice little camera for an introduction and the idea of being able to use legacy lenses is a novel one. Just which ones will be the challenge. I hope to shoot landscapes/seascapes, portraits and the odd surfing shot.I figure a small zoom with macro, a larger zoom say, 70-300 and an all purpose prime around 40 to 50.
I'd like to hear from any other ist DS users on what they are using. Please excuse my ignorance if this is not the correct forum for questions.

Welcome, mate. You must be the 2,742nd Aussie to sign up this week! We're flooding the market. You can hear the lazy, nasal drawl all over the forum.

You'll find plenty of people to help you with your lens lust (we all suffer from it!) and it's the friendliest forum on the net - would I lie to a Fellow Australian? When you feel ready, post some pickies for us all to enjoy.

Welcome Linz!

As Wombat & Roentarre say - we are on the march.........looks like we'll need an Aussie section just to keep up!

As for the correct forum and what lenses, ask away - there are lots of friendly Pentaxians around to assist.

Look forward to a few images from the tropics....particularly when winter returns in 6 months (for those in the Southern Hemisphere )

G'day Linz. I was recently staying down at the Tallebudgera Recreation Centre. Went for an early morning walk around Burleigh Heads National Park and took some shots of the surfers at Burleigh Heads with the 200mm end of a Pentax-A 70-200/F4. Turned out OK for the distance I was from them. A polarizer would have helped with the contrast.

G'day neighbour. Burleigh Heads here so if you want to meet up for a coffee/beer/glass of water () some day and go over your camera...only too happy to do so. I had a DS before upgrading...well, still have it actually, just dont use it.

Welcome, Linz. I'm also a new member from Oz. Camberwell, Melbourne, with a MiL in Runaway Bay. I've started many bike rides from the corner of Markeri St and Bermuda St, not far from you.
