First Pentax K1000 Owner

Greetings and happy new year! I am joining this forum for the first time because I bought a Pentax K1000 film camera. I was curious about the serial number so I stumbled across this forum and serial number database. I bought this because my son is taking his first high school photography class. I wanted him to have a unique and positive first experience learning photography. I am not a photographer. So, if this little experiment is a bust for him then maybe I will try learning some film photography. I bought my K1000 from eBay from the original owner who says he bought around 1980 when his first child was born. I have a hard case, zoom lens and the standard lens. It is missing the lens cap and the small cap for the flash plug on the front. I am remedying this by ordering replacements from eBay. I also found and ordered a macro lens and UV filter. This weekend, I am spending time cleaning the camera top to bottom and inside out. I will try taking the first roll of film and let you know how it turns out! Have a great day.

Welcome to Pentax Forums. My first Pentax camera was a Pentax K-1000.

Welcome to the forums!
K1000 is definitely a classic camera to learn film shooting! You and/or your son will be well served.
Also, very cool that his highschool offers film photography. I thought that experience was long gone.
Enjoy, and please do ask questions as they come up.

My Dad purchased a computer because he thought my younger brother {19 years younger than me} should become familiar with it.
My bother never did much with it, but it was the beginning of a wonderful hobby for my Dad.
I hope you also have a wonderful time, independently of what your son does.

My own journey with photography started with a K1000 and a HS photo class.
The K1000 is a great camera because nothing is automatic, so a new photographer must pay attention to every setting, and in doing so, learns how each setting affects the others and the resulting photos. IT's a slow process, since the K1000 doesn't really allow for "point and shoot " carelessness, but that slowness often allows the photographer to really consider the scene and adjust the composition before making a picture. I hope you both enjoy the learning process.
