New to Pentax...again

Hello all. I received a new ME Super for a high school graduation present *mumble* years ago, and used it regularly until it locked up about 12 years later. For the past 30 years I've just used a mish-mosh of whatever other camera was available, until I finally got into the mirrorless world about 3 years ago. That led me down the rabbit hole of fitting vintage lenses to my Sony A7R, the first of which was the very compact Vivitar zoom that I got with that ME Super. I've now developed a camera and lens "problem" (according to my wife), mostly collecting lenses, but the latest manifestation is an itch to get a dslr, and specifically a Pentax, to return to my withered roots.

Sooo, while looking for a K10D, I stumbled on a K100D on an online auction, and managed to bring it home for about $70 shipped. It's in fine physical shape, save for a little scuff on the bottom corner, included the 18-55 kit lens, and seems to boot up just fine once I put some decent batteries in it. About 10.5k shutter count. Firmware is still 1.00.

No pictures to share yet, but looking forward to getting out there.

I've already learned a bunch by hanging out here, so thank you all!

Don

The K100D will feel like a dinosaur compared to the Sony, and the viewfinder isn't big and bright like most Pentax cameras, but the sensor can give some nice images. Be sure to visit the Six Megapixel Club to see what others are doing with their 6MP cameras

another thread the OP might enjoy looking at and perhaps even posting some images from his K 100D and its CCD sensor:

The CCD Sensor Cult. I mean Club...
Not too many people shoot them anymore, as no one's making them at this point... but the CCD sensor cameras have a loyal following (some would say obsession) from its fans (crazy? luddites?).

If you love the images you get from your CCD sensor camera, be it a tiny point and shoot or a giant sensor 645D or even a full medium format back, post here and wax poetic about the virtues of a technology that was replaced by a lower cost, video-friendly alternative (CMOS)...

You will want to update that. You need 1.02 to get access to sd hc cards.

Welcome! The ME Super was my gateway to Pentax also, back in the early 80s.
I've been alternating allegiance with µ43 at times, now have a bit of both. I also have a K100d, not the Super in this case - so no SDM contacts but a great cam regardless.

Same basic camera other than sdm. I own both.

Welcome back to Pentax. You don't have a "problem". Just as a weed is only a plant growing in the wrong place, so a problem is an interest not shared by someone else. So welcome to "problem central"- AKA The Forums.

Welcome to the forums!
The K100D Super was my first DSLR camera, I remember it fondly.
