Greetings fellow Pentaxians!

Old school photography guy here, cut my teeth on a 35MM Pentax with 35mm screw mount lenses, starting around 1969. Did B&W photos for my class yearbook which included winding the film canisters, processing the exposed film and printing pics for the editors to review. Learned a lot in those years, still learning! Amassed a n ice collection of lens for the old film cameras over the years. I graduated to DSLR about 25 years ago with a Olympus E10 and E20 (don't judge me please!) but yearned to use my collection of Pentax lenses. I finally figured out that I could use my old lenses with a K5 and was finally able to get my first Pentax DSLR when I bought a used K5 IIs about 6 years ago. I would have happy with just that, but I had dropped it with a 28-105 lens to a carpeted floor from about 2 foot height. Needless to say I was mortified and when I picked it up and turned it on the lens would not focus and I found that it was tight when trying to manually focus. It loosened up though after a couple full in-out manual movements and then started to work with the autofocus! PHEW, or so I thought. Seems that images after that did not have the clarity I expected and so I sent it off for repair only to be told - we don't work on cameras this old! Really you couldn't tell me that BEFORE I shipped it!?! Well, I've been dealing with it for some time and with retirement looming, I decided to bite the bullet and buy a K1 Mark II with kit lens. It helped to know that the K1 will accept and work with the Cropped sensor lenses so the decision was pretty easy even if the price was steep.

I hope to learn more about the K1 soon and would love to hear any suggestions for lenses that I should carry when I go out for shoots.

Welcome to the club and congratulations on purchasing one of the finest FF cameras available. I only recently got my K1ii a few months back and it has reinvigorated my love for photography.

I don't know what you like to shoot, but there is one lens I could absolutely recommend: HD PENTAX-D FA* 50mm F1.4 SDM AW. I tend to like "normal" focal lengths, or slightly wider than normal like 35mm, for most of my shooting, and this 50mm is a work of art. Unfortunately, it does come with a hefty price tag, but it is well worth it.

I've seen a lot of great shots from the less expensive 31mm Limited, too, but I haven't tried one myself yet. I also recently acquired a Zeiss Distagon 35mm. In the little bit I've used it so far, it is also a superb lens, approaching the D-FA*50mm in sharpness and image quality. Unfortunately, it is no longer made.

Welcome to the club!

Welcome! Not on your list, but highly recommend picking up a M 50mm1.7 or F 50 mm 1.7
