DSLR Noob here - Bay Area, CA

Hi everyone!

This is my first post, yea! I just got my first DSLR, it is the *ist DL (how do you say that anyway??), with a few starter quality zooms. I am pretty much new to SLR photography, having used the $40 digital P&S for many years.
Well, I checked out some of the tips, advice, and photos within this forum and I know this place will become my fountain of photography knowledge.

From the reading, I already have started a list of lenses I need to get before I can be happy; i will surely be asking for help of specific shooting situations too.

I dont dare post any of my first shots (not in THIS company of real photographers), but let's say i am really enjoying the hobby.

San Francisco bay area, did i say that already?

Best,

Mike

There seem to be a proliferation of: Bay area shooters, and shooters named mike If youre on a budget, I always see some decent Takumars on the Sfbay craigslist, if you're willing to drive. There was a camera swap a few weeks ago, which I think they do every year as well. Keep an eye out! The good thing about pentax is if you like maual control, you can build a respectable kit on a very reasonable budget.

Welcome! I was in your position just over a year ago. Please read as much as you can. Nothing matters more than knowledge. Lenses and equipment only sharpen what your intellect can produce.

Welcome to the forum, I see your making lists of required lenses already.

I regret to inform you that's you on the slippery slope of LBA already.

Welcome to the boards, Mike. I recommend not reading the lens review database or the Photographer's Marketplace, if you're trying not to come down with LBA.

Check that, get off the boards now! I've been on these forums for a week, and I've already bought two lenses, a new bag, and another memory card.

Now, I only need the 12-24, a high speed tele zoom, the 77mm 1.9, battery grip, flash, a set of old primes w/ extension tubes for fun...
