Pentax bird photography

Dear All,
I've just been prompted to make my first post so here goes.

I started 35mm photography with a K1000 back in about 1976. I used various film models until I got my first digital SLR, a *istDS. I now use a Pentax K20D and a Sigma APO 400mm macro lens for bird photography.

I am a birder who takes photos rather than a bird photographer who watches birds so I wanted a relatively light prime lens, internal stabilisation and a good sensor. The set up I use meets my requirements.

You can see some of my shots at:

Cheers,

Welcome Dave,
Nice collection of birds you have. I like taking bird, wildlife and nature photo's but usually have to look them up in my bird books when I get home.

Hi Dave

I`ve only recently joined the forum and came across your link of bird photos. Very nice indeed it`s what I want to do but have got a long way to go before I get half way to your standard. I think another lens is a definite.

Thanks for the welcome.

Great eagle shots Tom.

Roger, I think a 400mm is the shortest useful focal length for birds. The Sigma I have is rare but occasionally comes up on the internet (mine was about 8 years old when I bought it).

It is nice to know that I am not the only Pentax birder out there. :-)
