Newbie with lots to learn

Hi All,

I'm very new to this photography stuff, but would love to learn more. I'm thinking of taking some photography classes. I'm in NYC and would love any advice you all could give.

I purchased a PentaxK10D a year ago and am still confused. I tried reading the book but still nothing . I'm thinking a class would help tremendously. I also would love to know what's the next lens I should purchase. I have the lens that was bundled with the kit, the 18-55mm.

Thanks for any help or advice,
