A New Aussie Member

Hi, Alison here. I'm located in Melbourne Australia, and spend a lot of time on the NSW South Coast. Intend to retire there in 12 months or so.

have just upgraded from an istD (which my son now has - still a great little camera BTW) to a K20D. I have a Pentax 18-200mm lens, Tamron Macro and a Sigma 10-20mm Wideangle.

I came to photography reasonably late (only 5 yrs ago), by way of painting - wanting to take shots of subject matter for my art. Have fallen under the spell of photography as well.

I need to understand more about the science of photography (apertures, f-stops etc) to enable me to take that good shot by design, not by accident. My composition is OK, but the techo stuff severly lacking.

I'm interested in exploring HDR photography once I get over the techo hump!!

Would love to hear from other members in Australia (esp Vic or sthn NSW).

cheers,
Alison

G'day Alison.
Yet another Aussie on the forum. Great to have you here.
I'm currently in Toowoomba but will be moving south to Jervis Bay, then Sydney next year.
You'll pick up quite a lot of technical details here, with quite a lot of pros, enthusiasts and skilled amateurs all pitching in ample photography skills & tips.

Looking forward to seeing the world through your lens(es)...

Welcome to the forum Alison.

Melbourne Pentaxian group? I'll be moving back to Aus hopefully early next year and quite possibly Melbourne, if there's a group I'd love to join. But what's the initiation? Whipped with camera straps? A Pentax tattoo?

Welcome, Alison, from sunny (usually) Brissie. I recommend the Photonhead website http://www.photonhead.com to learn the basics of exposure, particularly the SimCam (camera exposure simulator) there.

Dan.

G'day Alison!

Welcome. You've certainly found one of the friendliest camera user groups around. Lots to learn, share and see.

And with the impending retirement you'll have lots of time to share your images with us!

Cheers

I can offer you the handy "Lithos's GBFO Guide to Aperture", in handy PDF format, if you need.

A great read, thrilling plot twists, and language like you wouldn't believe.

Also, it's free. Unless you're willing to pay for it, in which case it's $79.95.
