K200d and 20 yr old lenses w/bayonet

Hi everyone! I am considering purchasing a K200d. I had heard that my 20 year old "k bayonet mount" lenses might not be compatible with the K200d. Something about the aperture or shutter speed not working well with it. Could someone let me know the truth about using lenses such as Tokina AT-X 28-85 and SMC Pentax-A Zoom with the K200d?

Mechanically, the lenses will work. Pentax digitals lack the ability to meter the shot because they can't read the value of the aperture ring.

I use old lenses on my *ist. You focus and select an aperture, then press a button to have the camera stop down and meter the shot. It picks what it thinks is the correct shutter speed, and then you can shoot. You can adjust everything and the extra step isn't a big deal.

Also a very small number of old non-Pentax (mostly Ricoh) lenses might get stuck on your camera. It's easy to fix and unstick, I'm sure there's threads about it here.

All my lenses from my Pentax K1000 work on my K200D. You have to change a setting in the menu and switch a button on camera first but they will work.

Welcome to the forums.

The K-mount lenses I own all work fine with my K200D. It's true old Ricoh lenses get stuck on newer Pentax digital cameras unless the lenses are modified (the pin needs to be pulled out of them). It's a simple procedure - search for the thread in these forums, I know it's there.

I've not as of yet found any of my older k-mount Pentax made lenses to cause any trouble on my digital cameras.

Welcome Terri--I am using lenses as old as 48 years on my Pentax DSLR--the only trick is getting the metering down. Once you do that, the shots can not be distinguished from modern lenses in many cases. You are going to have a blast in here.
