Another Noob..

Hi every1,

Im now a proud owner of a Pentax k200d. I started looking for a cheap point n shoot camera for around $200 (AUD). After a few days of research and checking out quality and features i found myself looking at dslrs..

Looked at Canons, Nikons and Olympus - in the end i liked the build quality of the Pentax and its price.. Picture quality seems just as good as the others if I shoot in RAW.. Ended up paying $568 which include a sigman 18-50mm F3.5-5.6 DC lens.. Was expecting a Pentax lens - either will do as im just learning... Will get few prime lens when i have skills to warrant the $$$.

Still need to do some more shopping for accessories.. They can wait.. have a 101 options on the camera to figure out..

cheers

Welcome to our little part of the internet. Congrats on the new camera. If I can offer a sugestion. If the seller said it came with a Pentax 18-55mm lens and you got the Sigma, fight to get the Pentax version. The basic Sigma is not that great and the Pentax 18-55mm is considered the best kit lens of any brand. They cost about the same (within $10-20). Sigma does make some excellent lenses and I own 5 and would consider others just not this lens.

Btw if you can ask for the DA18-55mm version 2. Not the earlier version or the DAL version.
I don't mean to ruin your day but I'd like to see you get the best out of the camera.

G'day mate, and welcome. Yet another Aussie.
I'd echo Peter's suggestion to you as Pentax's AL II version of the kit lens is a very decent lens - will put off having to 'upgrade' it for a while...

The K200D's a great camera - you'll find it very capable, and there are many on this forum who have used it to create absolutely stunning images.

Keep learning and post some of your own images on here once in a while...

I purchased off the net and just assumed it would come with a Pentax lens but i was wrong - the front of the box says K200D with Sigma lens..... Slight bummer as i had read that the Pentax kit lens was one of the better kit lens..

My father has some old Pentax lens that i can "borrow" so im not too concerned.

Anyway.. Thanks for the welcomes guys...

Cheers
Tony
