Hi from Houston

Hello from Houston, TX.

I don't have a Pentax camera (yet) .

I have a few manual focus Minolta bodies (film) and lenses, but the move to AF made all my lenses obsolete. I dabbled in digital with a Minolta Dimage 5 (P&S).

Now I'm looking for a new DSLR. Last year I reviewed all the DSLR in my price range (up to US$1000) and decided K200D was the ideal camera. The most important factors were:
  • support for all K-mount lenses (even if I don't have any, it tells me about the manufacturer's concern for their customer's investment in their system),
  • a nice range of exciting lenses, and
  • the use of AA batteries.
I just needed to convince my wife it was time to upgrade.

Now I've done that, I turn around to find that
  • K200D is discontinued (hopefully it will be replaced by something similar real soon now),
  • many people are worried about the future of Pentax, and
  • Pentax is owned by a non-camera company just worried about the bottom line.
The last two make me nervous about buying into the Pentax system.

I'm still hoping to buy a Pentax, but will wait a little more ...

I don't think the future of Pentax is in danger.

If you want a Pentax buy it and do some shoot.

Welcome to the forum.
Consider the K-m, a very good cam that also uses AA.
As for Pentax and its future, there will always be nay-sayers and pessimists - you should make up your own decision and see if the gear is what you want for the price you pay.
All the best.

Welcome to the forum! I was a Minolta user too. Started with a Minolta SRT201 that I bought in the 70's. I also owned a Dimage, a 7i. I'm glad I went to the Pentax DSLR. I won't look back!
