hi everybody, prob with a lens

Hi! My name is Francis Buron and i'm from Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

I'm new on this forum and I'm new in the world of photography. I bought a K10d a month ago and i'm crazy about it!!!

I just bought an old pentax lens near my house and I wondered if I could use it on my K10d. I read somewhere that all K mount lenses would fit on it, but I'm not able to turn the lens and ear a clic.

If someone could help me, at least to know what to do...

Here are the infos on the lens

ATAN, P-MC, Zoom, 1:4, f=80-200mm, 55filter size, MACRO, No.84000187

thank you everyone

Welcome to the forum, I'm not familiar with that lens, but I'm sure someone will be along in a moment with the answer for you.

I think pictures of lens mount would help.

Welcome Francis, if you can mount the lens to your camera then you can use it. You just need to get into the menu custom settings to allow aperture which will be the last item on that menu. This will also allow the usage of M42 lenses when connected with the correct adapter.

Be sure you have the menu item about allowing non-A lenses to be used on the camera selected.
That way, you can set the lenses aperture manually, and the camera will meter it using the green button on M mode.
But check to see that it is a non-A (ie. M or M42) lens first.
Basically, if it can be fitted on your camera, it can be used.

I had a lens that had P-MC in its name as well. I assume MC means multicoated, while P is for Ricoh's P-mode - my lens in fact had a "ricoh pin". Try googling that, there are a lot of guides and pics around net about this "ricoh pin", and you might find it on your lens.

Hope that helps!

Bienvenu, Francis. Check that the mount does not have an oversized flange on the mount. Do a forum search on the word, and you should find the problem lenses and the solution.

Thanks guys! That helped me. Just bought 2 old manual lenses and couldn't get them to work. Wasn't aware of the setting for manual aperture. Great!
