Another pesky Australian.

Hi all, I joined the forum yesterday after seeing it mentioned over at DPReview.com.

I had a nice intro written last night, click submit new thread and it disappeared! Anyhow, hope this one makes it up.

I've used Pentax SLR's since 1999 (at 23 now, that's a long time). Started with an MZ-50 and moved onto an *istDL early last year. The *istDL is gone and my K10D arrived 2 weeks ago. Have barely had a chance to use it, but it will get a workout the next 3 weekends.

Mostly I shoot motorsport, and even more specifically drift. I love it, a spectacular sport with great photo opertunities.

Anyhow, feel free to check out my site: http://www.AGSPhotos.com and my gallery: AGSPhotos.com Gallery.

Cheers, Adam.

***EDIT***

Here is what my original "spam" ( ) intro said:

Hi all, I just joined the forum today after seeing someone mention it on the DPResource.com forum. I am very please to find such a place.

As for me, I'm a 23 year old Architectural Draftsman in Tasmania, Australia. I've held a keen interest in photography since I did a b&w course at school in 1999. That year I bought my first Pentax, an MZ-50 with Sigma 28-80, then I bought a Sigma DL 100-300mm f4.5-6.7 about 18 months later.

Early last year I moved from a cheap 3.2MP Kyocera p&s digital to an *istDL. This was mainly because I liked the thought of using my 100-300 and didn't have the funds to buy long lens. The DL served me fairly well, with a few problems over the next 12 months. I snapped well over 10,000 photos in that time, mostly motorsport.

After having further issues that weren't getting resolved I visited a large photography expo (concentrating on gear, not photographs) and tried some other brands. After telling the Pentax people I was thinking of moving because of ongoing issues they kindly offered to look after me to keep me with Pentax.

The result is a K10D with grip. I'm using the Sigma SIGMA DC 18-125mm f3.5-5.6 as my walkaround/wide lens. I love this lens, so practicle, always sharp, just really good.

As part of my upgrade I bought a Sigma DG 70-200 f2.8 and 1.4x teleconverter. The Pentax dealer suggested a Sigma 50-500 f4-6.3 for my purposes, but after talking to my trusted camera guru at my local store I went with the 70-200. He had used the 50-500 on his Nikon and owns a 70-200 Nikor and he said the Nikor with TC was far far superior. Also, given what I shoot the f2.8 will take full advantage of the K10Ds quick focussing.

The only other gear in my bag is a Sigma EF-500 DG Super flash, some UV and polarizing filters and my sexy orange vest with my web site embroidered on the back.

I look forward to finding answers to some of my many questions, as well as hopefully being able to help others out along the way.

Cheers,

Adam - AGSPhotos.com

Yeah, well.....as long as you don't barrack for Collingwood you can stay.

Welcome Adam. Look forward to seeing some of your work.

The rest of the forum will now be scratching their collective heads saying " who the hell is Collingwood??"
Cheers

Welcome Adam. We won’t hold it against you. There are heaps of these irritating Aussies here. The worst is that they take really good photos. Had a look at your photos and you have a lot of good shots there.
Collingwood! From that strange game where guys run around in tight shorts and sleeveless shirts, kicking a ball in all directions.

Cheers

Tahnks for the welcome guys.

Grant, I'm not a big football man, AFL, Rugby or Soccer. But anything with a motor and I'm there.

That being said, if I had to bick one, Rugby Union would be it.

Rang the national supplier of Sigma & Pentax today...70-200 is delayed indefinately! They have them in all mounts except Pentax. Minimum wait is 6-8 weeks! I've got an event coming up in 2 weeks too. Was meant to be here "at the end of the month". Guess they didn't say which month

Is that the sigma 70-200 f2.8 HSM? If so, i think they are holding out for pentax to release their SDM lenses so they can figure out how it all works. Its different from canons USM and what ever it is that noink uses.

Oh, really? I might call them tomorrow and ask. I thought it was the HSM one I was getting (it is all very complicated, basically the screwed me round on warranty and are looking after me on a 70-200 as compensation). Better call to confirm.

Hi Adam,

Your nice introduction was accidentally stopped by our automated anti-spam system for new members (probably because of the link), but I've now made it visible: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/welcomes-introductions/7357-another-pesky-australian.html

This won't happen again as the system is only enabled for users with 0 posts. Sorry for the inconvenience! If you'd like me to merge the threads, let me know. Also, feel free to copy the introduction into the first post in this thread.

Ahhh, yep, that'd do it. Looking at it now it's pretty long too. Had me beat, haha, I spend a bit of time on forums and I was sure I clicked "Post".

I've just coppied my original intro into the bottom of this one so feel free to delete that other thread to keep things tidy. Thanks.
