I'm back... Joele (joel) from Australia

Well I'm back from Olympus and Nikon. Got the 'grass is always greener' out of my system and back to Pentax where I feel I belong

D90 is sold, lenses up for sale and I have ordered a k7 and a 31 Ltd.. This time I am only going to buy top end primes as that is all I was ever happy with anyway.. besides I can always borrow off roentarre.

Look forward to getting back into the system, hope some of the older guys are still here and hi to the new people I won't know..

P.S. I am not a moderator anymore on this board, just a normal forum member ;-)

Yay! Welcome back mate!
Good to see you choosing Pentax again and testifying that Pentax certainly has good things going for it. What do you feel lacking or less appealing about the other systems in your opinion?

I'm with you waiting on a 31 ltd, but I wish I had a friend nearby like James!

Olympus - well their cameras are great and their lenses are insanely good, but they all peak early so diffraction kicks in too soon and Olympus seem allergic to primes. Not to mention their lens roadmap is all but dead, they see the future in micro 4/3 i think. With the mediocre high ISO and lack of bright primes from Oly I found low light photography limiting.

Nikon - very expensive for good stuff, most cheaper primes 20,24,28, old 35, 50, 85/1.8 just aren't that great for various different reasons. Cameras are very good but the D300(s) is way overpriced and I wanted weather sealed.. I liked the 3rd party support but could find no advantage of VR over in-body IS and it also meant that stabilised primes virtually didn't exist. Don't get me wrong they are good too, just not in the ways I wanted. Ohh I should add, in lowlight their autofocus is easily the best..

Out of the two I preffered Olympus to be honest, their zoom lenses are something to write home about..

Now pentax has in Australia
- k7 which is built like a d300s but for half the price.
- in body IS
- good range of primes (with IS)
- weather sealing at much lower price ranges than nikon
- just much better value for money in lens and body
- better community ;-)

That is some quality feedback from you Joel.
Thanks for sharing that.
Pentax's primes are indeed something to behold (starting to appreciate that more with time), value for money is always a good virtue,
and the community...cheers

Good having you back. I think it makes sense to try things out for oneself, and see what works.

Welcome back Joel. There shall be no more departures I should hope.

About time I got myself a 31 limited I think.

Hi..

Duarte from Portugal and NZ . I will arrive in Adelaide for a few months in 3weeks.

So.... U'd go for a K7 or a K20D even if u could afford a D300 then ?

thanks

Ps : welcome back to Pentax, hehe

I could, and I was thinking of the D300s but I just wasn't that happy with their short(ish) prime selection, the only real exception was the new dx35/1.8, but more becuase of its price than it having as much character as the 31 ltd

Lack of IS/VR for primes (except the 105mm macro which I sold anyway, thats another story) doesn't help their cause for my needs either..
