Hello from Brisbane, Australia

Hi everyone, just a quick hello from Brisbane, Australia. We just bought the new Pentax KX with a twin lens kit (Pentax DA L 18-55 mm and Pentax DA L 50-200 mm). I've long been interested in SLR photography but have been cautious about investing in the necessary equipment because I have always had problems with photography due to a mild tremor in my hands. However, my sister recently bought a K7 and that inspired me (aka made me jealous) to get into DSLR photography too.

The KX seemed like an excellent place for me to start - relatively cheap entry level DSLR, with image stabilisation in the body as well as a sister to borrow lenses from (both meaning less money spent on lenses in the future).

So far I have only had the camera one weekend but I'm in love with it and already spending as much time as possible either: (a) reading about DSLR photography or (b) experimenting and practising with it.

Congrats mate, and welcome.
You'll find the K-x a marvel to use in most conditions - you may find you and your sister fighting over lenses so much you'll have to get your own!
Lots of us Aussies here, as well as quite a few Brisbanites.
Enjoy the K-x and your time on the forum.

Welcome to the forum. There are features of K-x your which your sister might soon envy (ISO capabilities).

Welcome and enjoy the forum

Just a quick note about keeping the camera steady - I would suggest that you try a monopod.
Fair bit less hassle than a tripod, and I find it works really well at reducing or eliminating shake.

Congratulations on the K-X also.

Aussie owner of a new K-X, sister owns a K7...I thought that story sounded familiar, and lo and behold, your Whirlpool username even matches!

Welcome to the forums mate, it's a great resource for us Pentax users, and there's plenty of Aussies around too.

Yeah, I'm not too original when it comes to creating usernames for forums. I found one that I'm happy with and generally stick to it (unless someone has beaten me to it).

Welcome, GingerBeer. Hope to see some photos from your new camera soon.

If you're interested in meeting other SE QLD Pentax users, join that social group.

I'll see about organising a group shoot.
