Hello from Washington D.C.

Hi everybody, I am glad to be here, what a wealth of info and knowledgeable people.

My first SLR/DSLR was Nikon D40 that I purchased in '07. I used it to take thousands of memorable photos (coupled w/ the kit 18-55mm and the 35mm f/1.8 prime). I invested no more $ into it but I'm still keeping it as a simple and reliable pick-it-up.

My dad used to own a Minolta SLR as well as a nice Pentax prosumer cam. I enjoyed using both very much on family vacations and that is the reason why Pentax crossed my mind when I shopped for a mid-range DSLR.

I ended up w/ Pentax K20D, BG2 grip, FA 50mm f/1.4 Prime, and DA 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3.

This is all within the past month and I'm waiting for DA 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 Fisheye and AF 360 FGZ flash unit to arrive.

I've taken 1K+ photos w/ K20D at various locations and it's been a joy to use. I took it out last night around 4:30am to try to capture the Leonid meteor but unfortunately it was cloudy.

Welcome! I meant to wake up for the meteor shower but was way too tired. But I'll just assume it was cloudy as I am not too far from you.

Welcome Shawn.
You have a camera that will be a great tool for capturing images in just about all situations, especially with the fast fifty you have.
Congrats on the purchases of the other gear, enjoy them and your time on the forum.

Welcome, you did not miss much, it was not very intense. I took 300 plus shots, only got couple small streaks.

Enjoy your new gear.

Cheers. Mike.

thanks Ash, yea k20d is a very capable DSLR. i'm trying to get acquainted with it, don't want to fiddle w/ the cam when i'm in the midst of great photo ops

hey Mike, i saw some leonid photos posted on the forum, it seems that it's hard to capture comets so i doubt i could've captured much even if the sky was clear, although i do wish i could at least witness the comets w/ my eyes.
