Hello from Michigan

Hello everyone!

I accidentally stumbled upon this forum while doing a Google search for infrared with a Pentax10D. Started to browse around, and decided I could probably learn a lot here... so here I am as a new member.

I bought my wife a Pentax ME Super SLR about 25 years ago. She is a photo nut, and I played around a bit with photography... nothing serious. A few years back she bought a Pentax PZ70 SLR. I started to play a bit more with it. I got a Canon point & shoot, which I played with for a year or two... then got bored. This past spring I purchased a Pentax K10D for myself Yeah, being able to use my wife's lenses helped determine what brand of DSLR to buy. My other choice was a Nikon D80. I'm happy with what I have.

My user name comes from the fact that I was a carpenter for years, and am known on some astronomy forums (one of my other hobbies) as Hammerman, and on Flickr as the Pentax Hammer. Didn't want you to think I was bashing Pentax.

Anyway... I'm looking forward to meeting you guys on the forum. Maybe you can teach this old dog a trick or two about photography!

Welcome to the "Club"

Hi nice to meet in the virtual world. I, like you, only discovered this site recently trying to find an answer to a question. It's a great site with lots of good info, stuff for sale and incredible photos.

I posted this on another thread but I think it applies well to a new member.

Here's the "official definition" of a Pentaxian taken from the Pentax USA web site. It's the print off the T-Shirt Pentax sells direct to the public.

I'M A PENTAXIAN. A LOYALIST. A DIEHARD. I ONCE
CARRIED A K1000 AROUND WITH ME EVERYWHERE,
ONLY RELUCTANTLY SETTING IT DOWN TO TAKE
THE OCCASIONAL SHOWER. I TELL MY KIDS BEDTIME
STORIES ABOUT THOSE HEADY DAYS WHEN THE
CAMERA KNOWN SIMPLY AS "THE PENTAX" WAS
THE BEST-SELLING SLR MADE. I DON'T SPEND
COUNTLESS HOURS PIXEL PEEPING. I JUST TAKE
PICTURES. AND WHILE I MAY BE TEMPTED, ON
OCCASION, TO TURN TO A STRANGER ON AN ELE-
VATOR AND SAY, "THE BEST AUTO-FOCUS SLR
LENS EVER MADE IS THE PENTAX 31MM F/1.8,"
I'D REALLY RATHER BE USING MY EQUIPMENT
THAN TALKING ABOUT IT. PENTAX UNDERSTANDS
THAT CAMERAS DON'T TAKE PICTURES, PHOTOG-
RAPHERS DO. THEIR NEW DIGITAL SLR'S ARE
THE RESULT OF LISTENING TO PENTAXIANS AND
DELIVERING TOOLS FOR TRUE PHOTOGRAPHY
LOVERS. THESE CAMERAS ARE ALREADY CREATING
MANY MORE LOYALISTS. SO THE QUESTION IS: CAN
THESE NEWCOMERS COUNT THEMSELVES AMONG
THE DIEHARDS? HEY, WE'RE PENTAXIANS, NOT
PHOTOGRAPHY SNOBS. WELCOME TO OUR CLUB.

Thanks for the welcome, Peter! Great saying from the Pentax t-shirts. Thanks for sharing that!

Curious.... I've noticed that like a few other members here, you have a small Pentax proud owner banner in your signature. Where did you guys find these?

OK, I go to the edit signature section, but I can't find a drop down menu for the owner tags, like the post suggests. So I look around more. Then I grab my reading glasses, thinking I am missing something (and at my age I'm probably missing half my mind) and I still can't find where to get the owner banners.

help!

Gary, To be honest i found it a little confusing myself so I simply copied (right click and "save image as") the image from another post and saved it to the desktop. Then added it to the signature line when editing the the signature. That seemed to be far easier.

Thanks Peter. Actually after reading your most recent reply, I found another version of the K10D that I like even better. I appreciate your tip on downloading it to the desktop. As you can see... it worked great!
