Hi From Utah

I'm new to the forum, but I've been a Pentax user since my first ME Super. I recently bought a K20D and DA 55-300, and I'm loving them.

I really enjoyed my Pentax ist D also, as it was rugged and compact. When the ccd sensor went bad, I decided $250 was a lot to pay for old technology. If anyone with a similar experience thinks it's worth the repair, I'd love to hear back?

My principal interests are wildlife, nature, and scenics. I'm especially looking forward to a trip to Africa in mid-2010.

Will Pentax DLSR's ever re-appear in mainstream photo stores?

I look forward to learning from the legions of experienced Pentaxians out there.

Welcome to the forum CD.
The *ist D is a fine camera, but you would do even better with a K10D, if money is tight for you.
It goes for around $300 used, and is at least as capable as your *ist D.

Better yet is the K20D or even K-7, if funds permit, as you have even more high ISO capabilities, particularly useful in telephoto work and high shutter speeds.

Just don't expect Pentax to be a household name at any retailer - Canon and Nikon cast way too big a shadow over the smaller niche company.

You may even find you'd benefit with a decent fast telephoto prime lens for your wildlife escapade to Africa - just depends what you're after.

What wide angle lens do you have for your scenics?
Look forward to your contributions here.

Welcome to the forum,
I signed up here today too.

I'd be excited too for Africa, gonna make for some great photography.

And you never know...sometimes you'll find that lone K20D sitting on the shelf amongst the Canons and Nikons
