2010 Soaking Wet

Thank God digital film is cheap because I suck. 100+ lousy pictures and counting. So that's why I'm here.

About 10 years ago I bought a Sony 2 megapixel camera for $1100. Then in the summer of 2004 I bought an ultra compact Nikon 5 megapixel for around $700. Now that DSLR cameras have come down price I finally decided to get one. After a little research and a friendly finger pointing in the right direction, I chose Pentax K-x for $100 less than what I paid for the Nikon point and shoot 5 years earlier.

Itís been 30 years since Iíve used an SLR. Back in high school I shot and processed one roll of slides using a Pentax ME. One of the daily newspapers in the city where I lived was building a new modern facility. I worked there part time with the clean up crew on the weekends and they were installing the largest offset press in Canada at the time.

The slides turned out very nice, especially given the dimly lit construction zone. I remember the shutter being open for almost a whole minute. Donít recall the aperture but given the enormous size of those huge yellow presses, the slides were very bright and completely in focus with lots of detail and depth of field. Wish I had kept them, but I made the mistake of showing them to the ďwrong peopleĒ who in turn confiscated the slides because I took them without permission on private property.

Cameras have come along way since then. I see a large learning curve ahead but Iím still hoping to luck out with a good shot every now and then thatís worth posting.

Thanks for having me here.

Thanks for joining us! Hope you will have a lot of fun with your K-x. It's the only Pentax camera in the regular camera shops for quite a few years over here in the Netherlands, I guess that is not for no reason !

Congrats on purchasing the K-x - now you have the freedom of getting all your bad shots out of the way without costing you much at all.
Remember, your first 10,000 are your worst.
Welcome and enjoy your time with us.
