You got me thinking and that's puting a strain on my tiny brain - lol
well the reason for doing it, is that I would like to prevent the lens from fogging up inside while heating up.
Placing them in seal plastic bags while they adjust to the difference in temperature prevents it, at leas in my experience.
I am not sure about Normal cold weather... I do it when outside temperature gets near -10 which seems to be where the fogging starts becomming an issue up here.
I do think it is depends largely on humidity levels where you are living.
