Daunted but excited with new Pentax

Hello everyone
Just joined this forum after many visits. I have finally taken the jump and upgraded from film MZ5 to the K7. I will receive it on the weekend and am a bit daunted (learning all about digital) but at the same time excited with the prospect of the new camera.
I look forward to meeting you on the forum.
Alison

Don't worry! Be cool!

You needn't know everything to do something!

Have fun & ask.

Welcome to the forum Alison.
Another Aussie! (Yay!)
You'll be fine with your new K-7.
Read the manual, start with the basics you know (camera modes, aperture, ISO and shutter speed settings), get to know the histogram and basic post-production techniques and work your way up.

For more info, check these articles out:
http://www.myacrobatpdf.com/8128/introduction-to-digital-photography.html
http://www.k10dbook.com/k7.pdf from Yvon Bourque's website offering the K-7 book of knowledge

Enjoy shooting with that fine piece of engineering.

Hi Ash
Thank you for your welcome, words of encouragement and articles most appreciated.

It will be a very steep learning curve as I start a 3 mth O/S trip mid May and unfortunately the small zoom DA*16-50 F2.8 I have ordered isn't available until April.

You may consider buying from B&H (B&H Photo Video | Digital Cameras, Camcorders) as their prices are best (even with shipping to Australia) and they ship within 3 business days (no bull).
Your only concern may be warranty as I'm not sure B&H will honour anything other than their 15 day guarantee for defective gear. (A bummer being an overseas customer).

All the best for preparing for the overseas trip.
