Hello from Down Under

Hi there. My name is Andy and I'm from Melbourne. I've always liked photos but never really had a camera until a couple of years ago (and I'm 37!!). Strange I know, but ever since I got my first camera (Canon G9) I've become more and more interested in photography. Finally got my first SLR for Christmas, a hand me down from my girlfriend's dad - and now I think I'm hooked. No idea about how to take a good photo, I just know I really enjoy taking photos.

Looking forward to spending a LOT of time learning the ins and outs of digital photography.

Glad he chose Pentax (although I wasn't at the time...)

G'day Andy and welcome. There are quite a number of Melbournians on the forum.
A fine gesture your girlfriend's dad gave to you. What camera did he hand down?
Be weary of this forum, though - it comes with the risk of turning you into a passionate photographer with a lens buying addiction (LBA).
All the best and look forward to your contributions here.

He gave me his K10D, as he bought himself a K-7 and wasn't allowed to have two cameras at the same time. I came with the 18-55mm lens, and we nabbed the old FA 28-105 off my girlfriend's Z-20.

I'm already looking at something with a bit more range, as I like taking wildlife photos and all that sort of stuff. And maybe a macro lens after that. And then...
