How about what gear you have/want and what you like to photograph?
Do you work as a photographer, or do it as an enthusiast?

I shoot with a K2 or film and use a *istD for digital even though I have had a K20d. I take pictures for but fun and for work assignments. My favorite lens on the K2 is the M 50mm f1.4 and Tammy 90mm 52B. On the *istD I like the F 28mm f2.8 and FA 100m f2.8 macro.
