Hello from Northern California

Hello my name is Chris and I live in the Northern California, Sacramento and the Bay Area region. I am just an average college student who fell in love with photography 3 years ago. I maybe the new guy in photography but I am no amature in the technologies behind it.

I come to this board to learn as much as I can about Pentax and general photography. I will also try to contribute as much as I can with anything that I know about.

I currently own the Pentax K100D with these lenses:
Pentax SMC-M 50mm f/1.4
Pentax SMC-M 50mm f/1.7
Pentax FA 50mm f/1.4
Pentax DA 40mm Limited f/2.8
Sigma 28mm f/2.8 mini wide II (manual)
Sigma 24-70mm EX DG f/2.8
Sigma 10-20mm EX DC
Sigma 28-200mm AF
Sigma 100-300mm AF
Tokina 28mm f/2.8 (manual)

This list will not end anytime soon.

Welcome, we're locals! Great, now we should get to be friends so I can borrow your lens sometime

What are you looking to get next? I'm saving up for a 540 flash unit.

Hey not problem if you let me test drive one of your lens.

I am looking to sell or trade that lens for the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX because the 24-70mm is a little to big for my taste. Its a great lens but I would like something smaller. But right now I am happy with it.

No problem. I'm sporting the 12-24, 31, 43, 50 1.4, 77, and 300 4.5 (which is probably going for service soon, however).

Does the 24-70 cover full frame?

Yep.

I made a typo, the Sigma 24-70mm EX is a DG not a DC. DG means it will work fine on a full frame without any problem.

That feels a lot bigger and heavier now since I've been spoiled by the Pancake 40mm limited.

Avant,
I am looking to buy the Sigma 18-50mm EX lens that is IF I sell the 24-70mm EX. But the next lens on my list is the Bigma 170-50mm lens. I've been wanting to get a long telephoto lens but never had the funds to do it. The lens that I REALLY want is the Pentax FA 28mm f/2.8 which is discontinued. I've been searching ebay but can't really find one at my price range since the price of all pentax lens jumpped up by 100000%. I don't think I will buy a flash anytime soon unless if I can get one that works with my Pentax for real cheap. I don't really do many indoor photography and when I do, I don't want to use flash.

Cool, we should shoot/fondle gear some time. Avant, I have a 540 you can toy with while we're out.

The pancakes are certainly on my list to pick up. I could *really* use that 21 to throw in a pocket while out for walks.

Geez, Chris that's quite a list of lenses for a "student"!

You need a SMC-M 50mm f/2 to complete that line-up of M 50s!

Post pictures!

I have a bad case of LBA...

The bought the two SMC M 50mm lens BEFORE the price went sky rocket on them and was able to pick up the f/1.4 for $28 and the f/1.7 for $17 both from ebay. I wanted to shoot myself for not picking up the SMC A 28mm f/2.8 for $15 when I had the chance. At the time I didn't know it was that great of a lens.

If I get the SMC M 50mm f/2 then that means that I should get the SMC M 50mm f/1.2 right if I really wanted to complete my collection. I was thinking of getting it but unless if I can find a killer deal on it, I would prefer to get a lens that I will use. Both of the SMC M 50mm is just sitting in my case, I've only used it a few times.

I also bought all of the other lens I got at a bargin except the Sigma 10-20mm which I paid full internet price at $490.

Awesome. It's great to find enthusiastic photographers! How's the focus on the Sigma 24-70? I've heard a number of them have slight focusing issues.

I only have the kit lens (18-55, and 50-200) to go with a FA 50mm so far. After the flash, I want to save up for the DA*, but I might be going with the 18-50 Sigma as well if the wait is too long (but I would like the HSM). Give me time... as I've only started on my dSLR adventure.

So far.. I like the sigma 24-70mm, the slow AF mech on the k10d is a pain sometimes. and as far as know, the sigma lens has internal AF, so you can't switch to manual mode for some low light situations. But i've had some great shots with it so far.

You can manual focus with that sigma lens. You see the gold ring at the end near the glass, just pull back that ring and you can manually focus with it. If the camera body is in AF mode, the ring maybe hard to turn so you need to switch the body to MF mode.
