Greetings from Belgium

Hello there!

I'm new to photography (the occasional snapshots with my mother's dslr, an Oly E-510, not included ) and I decided that I want it to learn myself.

At this moment I don't own a camera and I'm researching the different possibilities for a first one. I think Pentax offers with the introduction of the K-x something very interesting for beginners.

What do you think about the following combination to get started? :

Pentax K-x (just body, no kitlens) + SMC Pentax DA 21mm F3.2 Limited

(lens review page: https://www.pentaxforums.com/lensreviews/SMC-Pentax-DA-21mm-F3.2-Limited-Lens.html)

I really like the photo's this lens produces (in the hands of a good photographer )

Thanks for the advice!

Welcome Stien.
The K-x is perhaps the best entry-level camera available.
The DA 21 is a very fine lens, being a limited edition variety, but as a fixed focal length it will restrict you to only that focal length. I would suggest that until you know precisely what subjects you are going to shoot mainly, get the kit lenses: 18-55, and 50-200 or even better 55-300 - if you are willing to invest in them.

Thanks for the advice! I like to shoot most of the time wide (landscapes, streetphotography, architecture, ..) and rarely zoom in (I love to get some of the surroundings when shooting a subject), so I think I'll be happy to start with a wide prime lens (and in the meantime I want to save some money for a narrower prime ).

Welcome, neighbor .

Don't know the K-x but I really like the DA 21 Ltd.
Have a look at these examples.

I made the decision, today I placed the following order :

Pentax K-x body (black)
Pentax DA 21mm 3.2 AL
Sandisk SDHC Ultra II 8GB
Lenmar pro 290 (4*2500mAh AA batteries + charger)

I hope to share my first experience with this combination and the results from it as soon as possible with everybody who's interested.
