Lens Club subforum?

I'd like to see the lens clubs moved into a subforum where they're all together and easy to find, vs showing up randomly through the SLR lens discussion forum.

Thoughts?

We have an index of all clubs for that purpose, located here: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/86170-lens-club-index.html

That's a good also, and I've used the sticky post to find things, but IMO the clubs add a lot of noise to the SLR lens discussion forum as those posts float up and down the list all the time.

I totally agree here. The lens clubs are very noisy. I generally go to the lens forum to read about people's thoughts on lenses, or to post questions about lenses, or read back-and-forth discussion of lenses.

To me, the lens clubs (in which, admittedly, i am not a participant) should be in their own subforum, either under the lens forum or probably more appropriately, the Post your Photos forum.

I have just the opposite problem: I go to the Lens forum to check out the lens clubs, and find myself having to wade through 40 highly negative threads about how awful SDM is, or other terrible ways in which Pentax is irresponsible and inferior to Canikon/whatever.

Well there we go. Win-win! If there's a lens club subforum, you can go straight there and not have to listen to the other discussions.

Don't we already have enough forums already? Although the idea could work, Why not simply use the subscrption system to keep track of relevant threads?

Ah, there is the logical solution.

I suppose that's fair, though I only get updates via thread subscriptions if I've posted in said thread recentlyish.

I'm not trying to be all high and mighty like what I want should dictate things. I just think it's a logical division of a topic. And generally, the "lens club" threads are about posting photos taken with a particular lens or category of lens, so shouldn't that be in the photo sharing section?

Currently, a text search of "club" on the front page of the lens forum yields 14 hits. When it was just a handful, ok, but the club thing has grown quite a bit to where I just think it would make sense to separate them out.

And I don't see how subscriptions would help someone like me to NOT see the club threads, which is what I was going for.

Thanks, Adam. Love the forums either way.

We'll flag this for the future. What we can do is restrict the creation of club threads so that they're uniform and unique.

Maybe the issue is not so much a forum, but a revamp of the sticky.

I think if one of the moderators took the sticky on as a maintenance task, adding clubs to the appropriate posting it would be better. the issue at present is really a fragmentation of the index to the clubs. IMO

We need a few categories, and I am not sure they are sorted that way.

Lens Types to include the following
- various Pentax lens ranges, K, M F, FA etc
- Takumars etc.
- other brands

Focal Lengths
- the nifty fifty club
- the 135 mm club etc....

specific lenses
- the sigma 10-20 club etc...

Specific attributes
- definitely not the flat earth society (round apertures)
- the dirt cheap lens club

It is really just a question of indexing.

That indexing idea is sort of an out-dated concept (just not efficient enough). A dedicated forum would in fact be superior if we really wanted to keep an up-to-date index.
