List of abbreviations

Could you post a list of abbreviations/accronyms for us less than up to date forum participants?

Haven't got a clue as to what LBA or BBA means.

I am sure there are others with similar concerns and bafflements.

Thanks for starting this - I was going to ask as well. This is my first foray into a Photography forum, although I've been snapping for way too many years. Not just cameras - also used an electron microscope!

To add to the abbreviations:

YMMV = Your mileage may vary

Just to expand a bit on the LBA acronym:

A number of years ago on DPR (thats dpreview.com by the way ) Lance B - still around and posting and has even been seen here at pentaxforums - coined the term LBA. There is some debate as to whether it stands for Lens Buying Addiction or Lens Buyers Anonymous but they both work.

Pentax is a perfect brand to carry this disease as pentax glass is legendary and most importantly STILL IN USE on their dSLR cameras (unlike other brands). This makes classic pentax lenses still in demand and many cannot help themselves. One symptom apparently is the owning of more than 2 50mm lenses

Lately the term has even shown up in official Pentax Corporate websites and marketing (eg. "Feed your LBA")

There are more generic terms around like GAS (Gear Aquisition Syndrome) found among - but not limited to guitar players, but LBA is a true Pentax term. Hence the bumper stickers.

How about all those people with abbreviations in their location expand them so not just those in the United States know where they hell they are from? Not everyone knows where MA or NJ or whatever means.

Thanks for all the inputs but I have to admit I don't even know all the abbreviations for the states in the USA.

A couple more

pp for post processing
oof for out of focus
dof for depth of field
kwim? for know what I mean?
dh for dear husband
dw for dear wife
dd for dear daughter
ds for dear son

oh my I could go on and on. ;-) Fortunately folks around here don't use too many of these abbreviations. Here are millions of them out there. I figure I've become a pretty fast typist since I type a lot at work also, so most times it is faster for me to type it out long hand than it is to dig into my brain and pull up the abbreviations. LOL (well, except for that one).

Oh and one I also use often is IMHO for in my humble opinion, sometimes used for in my honest opinion. Me, I'm always humble.

Once in a while there is something so funny that it will induce a "ROTFLMAO" which means rolling on the floor laughing my _ _ _ off.

Following the footsteps of Lance B ... I want to lay claim to the term LBAN, meaning someone associated with LBA (a la America => American), but can also be explained as a LBA Nut

Not abbreviations, but full words many people have trouble with:

1. Aperture - not apature or aperature.
2. Lens - not lense or lens'
3. You're (such as "you are right")
4. Your (such as "your lens is nice")
5. They're, their and there - like 3 and 4, and a place such as "go there".

IIRR - If I remember right.

I do NOT have trouble with lense, labour, colour or any other words in the Queen's English.
